Tolkien and however you choose to mark the occasion I’d heartily encourage you to be grateful and to think - to take a few moments to think of all the parts of your life that would be different had it not been because of the writing of this one man. Think of…. The friends you’ve made because of Tolkien. The people who you’ve come to love and value. The places you’ve travelled to. The things you’ve done, the things you’ve tried, the things you’ve seen. The movies and books - not just those directly linked to Tolkien, but all those who were inspired by Tolkien - that you’ve thrilled to and enjoyed. The games you’ve played. The art that has been created. The music that has been written. The ways you’ve been inspired. Think….and remember that none of this would have happened had it not been for the writings of J.R.R. In celebration of reaching my first followers milestone, I’m having my first Hobbit Moments giveaway - and of course it has got to be a Hobbit related item! I have a brand new and unread copy of John D Rateliff’s “Mr Baggins”, the first part of his magnificent and definitive work on the history of “The Hobbit”, to give away to one lucky recipient. This universally applauded book has so much information about how the story of The Hobbit developed, definitely something to read before going to see the movie this December. This is the British paperback edition, which I believe is only available via import to other countries so its a bit of a rarity too.
